Louis C.K. conducted an experiment in digital distribution by recording and producing his show at New York’s Beacon Theater and selling a simple video download online for a mere $5.
His last three comedy specials were aired on HBO, Showtime and Comedy Central, but this time he hurdled the networks and brought the video straight to his fans.
With a staggering number of downloads and the subsequent profit, Louis C.K. announced on his website that he would be splitting the million into four quarters; part will pay off the video’s production costs, part will be staff bonuses, part goes to charity and the last part goes to Louis.
