Pinterest.com puts the 'community' in online boards

Pinterest, the 21st century’s answer to the corkboard, embodies the true spirit of online communities: sharing. These virtual boards give you your own little corner of the Internet to share the fun, pretty, inspirational and useful things you find online.

You create different boards — a few of mine are “Places I’d Like to Go,” “Décor” and “Funny” — and fill them with images and links from the Internet, your own original “pins” or things you discover on other users’ boards.

Items on the boards are arranged in little tiles, each with an image and a short description that is written by you. This vibrant online community of users shares everything from recipes to jokes to favourite new fashion trends.

Beyond just sharing the fun stuff you find online, Pinterest is a straightforward way to visually organize projects like weddings, home renovations and parties.
