Big, bold, beautiful sunflowers

Sunflowers make a stunning addition to any summer garden and are available in varieties suitable to any setting, large or small.
If your patio containers need a lift, try ‘Sonya®.’ This golden-orange sunflower features a dark centre, and each stem produces a spray of flowering side branches. The plant grows to about 40 centimetres and produces 10-centimetre blooms. This one stands alone.
‘Big Smile’ makes an excellent statement in your border or planted in drifts. An early bloomer, it grows to 38 centimetres in height. Bright golden-yellow flowers are stunning when planted with contrasting blues.
Plant a picnic for the birds with ‘Mammoth Russian’. This giant takes 120 days to mature and the bounty can be worth it. The 25-centimetre flowers produce a profusion of black-and-white-striped seeds. Left in your garden, these two-metre-tall wonders provide attractive winter interest for both birds and birdwatchers.
‘Giganteus’ is just as the name implies. Each 4.5-metre-tall stalk is crowned by a huge30-centimetre flower. The seeds make for great eating.
