Microclimates may cover large areas or just a couple square feet
A guide for different microclimates and climatic zones
Microclimates are pockets that differ significantly from an area's overall climatic zone. They can be created by features that modify climate such as protected spots, exposed areas, elevation, and north/south facing slopes, walls and canyons.
Microclimates allow you to grow plants that would not normally grow in your area. Ask garden centre staff how to protect plants that may be marginal in your zone.

I recommend referring to this URL as a reference: British Columbia Interactive Hardiness Zone Map
This map is more detailed than the Vesey link and hopefully answer any outstanding questions regarding hardiness zones.
Does not include Maple Ridge which is the information I need.....
The Island has only one climate zone? This doesn't make sense.
For those interested in a more comprehensive map try the following site......

How stupid. Did you ever hear of East and west Kootenays? Get with the program, we are part of B.C. not Alberta but could probably get better info from them.
Amazing how everyone includes the Okanagan but forgets the North Thompson region. We are 3/4 depending on which end of the valley one lives. We need a map otherwise any information is redundant
Should have a map!!!
I'm trying to do my homework and this was absolutely NO HELP AT ALL! I'm not at all familiar with zones. This is really confusing me...
Looking for something that gives more detail.
Me too, I don't get the zones at all

first rule of useful information sharing: know your audience. Many people (like myself) are familiar with the zone concept but not the west coast region. Zone tables would be much more useful if they were accompanied by a regional map that shows zones for specific areas. I have not yet been able to find one. Can anyone advise?
b.s didnt help
