Daffodils Everywhere

Daffodils – genus Narcissus – are the classic spring bulb, with good reason.

There are so many types of daffodils that enthusiasts keep track of them by assigning each cultivar to one of 13 divisions. ‘Ice Follies’ (shown) is a large-cupped cultivar that blooms midseason. For early bloom, consider dwarf cultivars, such as ‘Tête-à-tête’, splendid among purple hellebores. Go for glam with a pot of double daffs by the front door; these divas like protection from heavy rain. Showy doubles ‘Tahiti’ and ‘Irene Copeland’ bloom midseason.
