Vancouver Farmers Market fundraiser perfectly RIPE, this Thursday

Vancouver Farmers Market

This Thursday, October 1, taste the fruits of our region at RIPE: The 1st annual evening of local food and libations, presented by Vancouver Farmers Markets.

The fundraising event will feature an incredible spread of mouth-watering concoctions made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, accompanied by local beer and wine, various speakers and music by Fiddlestix and Grist to the Mill.

Here's a peek at the menu:

  • Roasted Chilliwack corn with chive creme fraiche
  • Overnight braised beef shortrib, sweet & spicy, stonefruit chutney
  • Pickled beetroot, gratin of alpindon cheese
  • Smoked sablefish, pickled shallot & fava bean relish
  • Cherry tomatoes stuffed with fresh goat cheese and thyme
  • Herb cured salmon with slow roasted peppers
  • Sunchokes
  • Roasted peach shortbread

… Are you on your knees yet?

The goal is to raise enough cash to support initiatives by the Vancouver Farmers Market such as the Farmers Nest Egg Fund, which supports vendor-farmers and the network of local farmers who make Vancouver Farmers Markets so successful, and the New City Market, a state-of the-art, sustainable, LEED-certified, multi-function venue to house a winter/year-round farmers market and resource facility.

What's so special about the farmers market anyway? For me, it's not just the fresh, seasonal foods—the ones I wish I had the knack to grow in my own home garden. It's also the smells, the sounds and the people who make my weekly trip so important. Such an evocative experience shared with community can only be good for the soul and good for our region.

I hope to see you there at the RIPE event!
