Mark Omelaniec, president of Langley Concrete Group, is the winner of the BCBusiness 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year award in the real estate and construction category.
As Peter Mitham writes in his October 2009 profile, Langley Concrete, a family business, was started by Omelaniec’s grandfather, who began by making well tiles for local farmers. It now produces 100,000 tonnes of concrete pipes and culverts annually, worth about $25 million, for projects ranging from residential subdivisions to major infrastructure projects such as the South Fraser Perimeter Road. Omelaniec’s brothers Mike, Kevin and Jason have significant roles in the company, but Omelaniec considers the 150 staff who work at the company’s three locations full partners.
