Food package claims often distort the truth about what’s in the food

Just because the food package claims a product is healthy, doesn’t make it so

Have you ever read some of the claims made on food packaging labels? Some of them are so obviously inaccurate it’s funny.

But more and more these days, food companies are spinning nutritional information so much that it’s sometimes difficult to know what is the truth.

Recognizing Deceptive Food Packaging

Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, a doctor and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, posted a video of a presentation he was supposed to give at a food industry sponsored breakfast. For some reason he was uninvited, but he posted his presentation online, and the information he provides is too good not to share.

After watching the video you’ll appreciate the advice given by many nutritional experts to shop around the perimeter of the grocery store. The healthiest foods are the ones that don’t require any packaging to tell you how healthy they are.
