From now till August 14, save on everything from ecobedding to wacky ottomans

Every since I started working in Gastown, I can’t help but to saunter down the cobble-stone streets and make lists about things I would love to purchase: sometimes it’s smart-looking couches from Sweden, other times it’s sophisticated side-table lamps from local indie designers. All things that admittedly—on my salary, at least—are likely to be purchased much later than sooner.

Which is why I’m jazzed about p+a furniture’s “One Year Being Here” sale, on until August 14! [UPDATE (August 16, 2010): p+a reports, the sale has been extended to August 21!]

If you’ve never been, it’s green-certified design house Penner and Associates’ front-end area, so you can imagine the aesthetics. p+a carries linens, plates, artworks, lamps and chairs—even wire baskets for organizing papers.

Gueto Miss Rio ottoman

As I’m a “touchy-feely” kind of shopper, I gravitated toward the up-cycled Gueto Miss Rio ottoman ($490) right away. It’s made entirely of flip-flops and definitely has that wow-factor, but it’s still not coming home with me: it’s about $360 without taxes. However, the ottoman is as bright as a rainbow and, your budget permitting, might even be a good beach accessory.

Amenity duvet covers and shams

If you’re into bedding, the Amenity duvet covers and shams are lovely. The certified-organic Percale cotton sheets are 300-thread count and hand silk-screened with non-toxic dyes. The duvet covers are a steal at just under a few hundred dollars each, as most non-organic bedding runs about that much.

As for the smaller ticket items, the Pangea Organics ($10 and up) body and bath line are buy one, get the second half off.

Nectare Essences ($31.50) room sprays are 40 per cent off. They not only smell great, but also support Fair Trade and organic farming practices and are animal friendly.

Organic Fair chocolates

While not really part of the sale, I did spot some beautiful jewellery from Refurbished ($39 and up)—dainty and one-of-a-kind—and some tasty eats from Organic Fair chocolates ($10) that I thought I would bring to your attention. The Canadiana flavour chocolates are made with maple syrup, sundried apple and alder-smoked salt, which to me could justify spending that much on chocolate.
