Eco-friendly coupons for sustainability nuts looking for a good deal

We all remember them, the Entertainment Books of the '90s. Big fat coupon books compiled for specific cities, most often sold to us by children as school fundraisers. And most of it crap.

But thankfully, the concept has been elevated to be more useful for the more choosy consumer. The Green Zebra Guide is the modern Entertainment Book, featuring discounts on sustainable products and services from businesses located across Vancouver. With 282 coupons, everyone is sure to find something of interest—from bookstores to clothing stores, restaurants to grocers.

For those renovating their home, there are coupons for building materials; or for those who can’t stand being home, Green Zebra even offers discounts on B&Bs located across the province.

Green Zebra coupons go mobile for FREE

Now there's an easier (lighter-weight) way to access Green Zebra Guide coupons—and it's free.

Download the free Find Green iPhone app by 3rdWhale.org and GenGreenLife.com. To use a coupon, simply find the business in the app's directory and flash it at the cashier.

Some coupons vary between the hard copy and mobile versions, and not all businesses represented in the book are participating. But GenGreen president Boyd Cohen says, "We have about 125 participating businesses from Green Zebra that are offering more than $1,000 of green savings." How convenient!

For $20, not only does the book offer great value, but it also provides key resources for anyone new to the sustainability scene. For example, the first few pages outline unique programs specific to Vancouver, such as Green Table and Ocean Wise certification programs.

The Green Zebra Guide is produced by TB Vets Charitable Foundation as a recent new fundraising initiative for schools and non-profit organizations. What better way to support a fundraiser than to purchase a product consistent with your values and lifestyle? The guide can also be purchased at most retailers listed in the guide.

With the year coming to an end, right now is a great time to purchase the guide on sale. TB Vets further demonstrates its commitments to sustainability by printing the Green Zebra Guide locally on  paper made from 100 percent post-consumer fibre, that is processed chlorine-free and both FSC- and Eco-Logo certified.

Whether you are a sustainable veteran, or new to the scene, the Green Zebra Savings Guide is a great way to support Vancouver’s businesses that also care about the environment.

Below are just a sample of the coupons that have been included in the Green Zebra Guide in the past:

Green Zebra is good value. I've used it for free yoga classes and saving money off products on Granville Island like Halfmoon Yoga. Apparently the 2010 edition is coming out in the next month so I'd try to pick that one up to get the most time to use your coupons. Apparently there's also new digital coupons new to the guide this year which help to use less paper and easy to use off your iphone or blackberry.
