Anthropologie opens on South Granville to the delight of Vancouver fashionistas

Whine as some may about the ubiquitous indie aesthetic hawked by the one-stop-shop for hipsters, Urban Outfitters, you won’t hear any of Vancouver’s fashion conscious complaining about the newly opened Anthropologie at 2912 South Granville.

Anthropologie might be owned by Urban Outfitters, Inc., but it curates a more grown-up aesthetic that comes at a slightly higher price point.

Vancouver shoppers, thrilled not to have to cross the border for Anthropologie access, flocked to the boutique on the May 12 opening to flip through racks of crochet cardis, print dresses, sweet blouses and more.
 

Anthropologie's wacky store design

When they weren’t shopping, they were gobbling up the mini cupcakes and marshmallows on hand, and gazing in wonderment at the wacky store design. Anthropologie makes a point of creating distinct interiors for each retail location, and crafting artistic and “unimagined” window displays.

The Granville location is no exception. The gargantuan tomato and mustard Dalí-esque clock, situated on the store’s staircase, is a worthy backdrop for a fashion shoot. Meanwhile the suspended, white tenting in the “At Home” section evokes the Expo 86 Science World geodesic dome.
 

The summer staples you need in your wardrobe

When it comes to picks for your wardrobe, there are a few choice, new arrivals at Anthropologie that are sure to become summer staples, and are therefore worth the investment. Palazzo pants are very hot right now, and I’m into the light swish of the chiffon, moss “Knife-Pleated Palazzos.”

Sailor-chic stripes are a summer classic and Anthropologie’s “Amplified Stripes” silk blouse, with a blue or red motif, is a sophisticated update of this summer-favourite. Lastly, check out the linen “Late Seating Blazer”, in blue or ivory—it’s tailoring you can don with a girlish dress to step it up for late drinks.
