Vancouver’s Christine Lingerie appears in the May issue of InStyle

Mega-publicity is nothing new to Vancouver lingerie designer Christine Morton, who’s worn by Christina Hendricks, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah, but we always like to see Vancouverites in the spotlight. This month, Christine Lingerie is featured twice in InStyle.

If you haven’t slipped into Christine’s slinky, glamourous boudoir apparel, you can stop by her Vancouver homebase at 821 Powell, or the new West Van pop-up at 1471 Bellevue Avenue.

XO Bella Boutique Brings Affordable Boho Chic to West 4th Avenue

Neon denim. Flowing tops. Eclectic print dresses. And a vintage section. Although the retail turnover rate on Kitsilano’s West 4th Avenue has some worried, XO Bella, the new womenswear boutique by the owners of Yaletown’s Hollywood Boutique, has everything it takes to survive.

The newly renovated space at 2294 West Fourth possesses the laid-back cool of an Abbot Kinney hotspot and holds all the essential wardrobe staples for boho beach style. With prices well under the Kits average, the store is buzzing with women of all ages, ranging from UBC students to professionals on the hunt for weekend wear.

Urban Outfitters Opens May 10 in Kitsilano

What’s up with Kitsilano? The sleepy West 4th strip is happening this spring. US-based retailer Urban Outfitters – beloved or despised depending on whom you ask – will open its doors Thursday, May 10th. According to staff in the Granville store, the Kits shop will hold alternative clothing lines selected to fit the neighbourhood vibe. We look forward to seeing exactly what that means this week.

Allison Wonderland Sale at Dream Apparel, May 12

Perhaps our sophisticated Vancouver designers are slightly out of your price range. Or maybe you already blew your spring/summer budget but you’re missing a key piece. Whatever your motivation, Allison Wonderland has teamed up with Dream Apparel for a Saturday afternoon sale (1-5 pm) with the designer in attendance. Expect door prizes, refreshments and a healthy 15% off.

Get Ready for the Portobello West Summer Market May 26-27

Get your hands on locally made clothes, accessories, art, home decor and edible treats at Portobello West’s summer market, going strong since 2006. Over 50 Vancouver designers will participate. This May, I have my eye on Urge Chocolates and the rockabilly frocks by Happy Yellow Dress. The show takes place at Creekside Community Centre. Admission is a paltry $2.

Internationally Acclaimed Designer Mary Katrantzou Visits The Bay

The Bay is spoiling Vancouver with all their celebrity designer guests. Athens-born Mary Katranzou, known for her clever use of illusory, hyper-real prints will visit this May ahead of her fall ready-to-wear line, which will be available in The Room. Katrantzou is worn by Scarlett Johansson, Alexa Chung, January Jones, Kiera Knightley . . . the name dropping could go on and on, but let’s stop there.
