Kwantlen fashion grads strut their (sustainable) stuff


Grads of Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s four-year fashion design program exhibited the cream of their collections at the school’s annual runway show, The Show, last Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

Particularly exciting this year were eight student designers who chose to incorporate a sustainability focus into their collections—from just one last year!

Watch for these eight talents from Kwantlen’s 2010 class to turn heads with their fashion forward, eco-friendly designs:

Jolie Jardin is a lingerie line that uses 100

percent sustainable silks produced with

minimal air miles and organic lace.

Designed with new moms in mind, Maternalistic

features prints made from water-based pigment

inks on fibre textiles.

Sienne features ’70s-inspired styles made from 100 percent natural organic fabrics.

This eco leather jacket from Supernatural, a line of sustainably produced jackets and coats, was tanned in a facility that adheres to reduced pollution and water consumption.

Designed for the “modern creative who

identifies herself as an eco-citizen,” wabi sabi uses hemp, cotton and silk blends and natural dyes.

Restored Authority, a line for full-figured women, strives to reduce waste by reusing fabric scraps.

Cadence, a dancewear collection uses rayon from bamboo and ChitoSante. ChitoSante is an anti-bacterial bio-agent made from crab or shrimp shells that is EPA certified.
