Looking good is one thing, but staying gorgeous through long hot days and damp, tipsy nights is a whole 'nother story. Here are our tried-and-true beauty essentials to keep you looking fabulous throughout summer's lineup of festival fun...
1. St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Mousse
You'll want to perfect your faux tan before baring those shoulders and legs. St. Tropez is the master of sunless tanners, and they've just released the new Purity line that's not only vegan (with 100 percent naturally derived tanning agents), it's also infused with skincare benefits and a fresh new tropical scent. Perhaps best of all, it's clear, which means no more annoying colour transfer.
Available at Shoppers Drug Mart, beautyboutique.ca, Murale, London Drugs and other independent retailers, $54
2. The Perfect 'Do
Suki'sYou might see the occasional flower crown still floating around, but festival hair styles have now gone next level. Don't worry: you don't need to bring your own stylist to master a braided top knot. Here are DIY instructions:
- Section off a small part of hair down the center of scalp, tying the rest of hair back out of the way.
- Using a small portion of hair closest to hairline, separate hair into three pieces.
- Begin braiding, creating a cornrow by adding a small piece of hair from the sectioned-off piece to each outer section before adding it to the middle.
- Continue until braid reaches back of the crown, and tie with small elastic.
- Pull extra hair from top of scalp and pull into a half top knot, securing with bobby pins.
- Using a curling wand, iron or straightener, add some waves to the rest of your hair. Finish with hairspray.

3. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+
If you pack only one base product, make it this all-in-one multi-tasker. Don't let the "CC" name fool you: this is a full-coverage foundation. It also contains full-spectrum physical sunscreen to keep you protected from harmful UV rays.
Available at Sephora and Sephora.ca, $49
4. Nail Art
For catwalk-worthy nail art, you need a nail artiste. Festivals increasingly resemble runways and a true nail artist will take inspiration from major fashion houses, transforming your nails into canvases of art, adorned with intricate florals, winking eyes, tropical fruit and other trend-setting motifs. And always opt for gels. Who has time to deal with chips... ever?
Available at Onyx Aesthetics Studio, 421 Abbott Street, starting at $40
5. AG Hair Dry Lift Texture and Volume Paste
Texture and volume, yes. But what makes this a superstar product is that it's essentially a dry shampoo in paste form. A little bit goes a long way. Made from 96 percent plant-based and naturally derived ingredients, including kaolin clay and volcanic ash, this product does a brilliant job of absorbing excess oil while giving your roots incredible lift and volume.
Available in salons and online at ulta.com, nordstrom.com, loxabeauty.com and chatters.ca, $24
6. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment
This lip treatment from Fresh applies like butter, tints like a sheer lipstick and protects with SPF 15—it's your one-and-done lippie when packing light for the whole day is a concern. It comes in 12 beautiful colours—from nude honey to deep berry, and the formula is buildable for more impact when needed.
Available at Sephora and sephora.ca, $29
7. Lano Golden Dry Skin Salve Allover
Summer skin can be ravaged by outdoor elements—UV rays, wind, heat—and grey, ashy patches are not cute (especially if you're also planning to fake tan). This thick, unctuous, deeply hydrating salve is your all-purpose skin saviour. It can be used on lips, face, cuticles, elbows, knees, hands—truly anywhere your skin is feeling parched and in need of a comforting layer. It's packed full of nutritious emollients, such as Manuka honey (hence the "golden"), vitamin E, apricot kernel oil and castor seed oil.
Available at Sephora and sephora.ca, $28
8. Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask
Sure, you look like a serial killer while wearing this sheet mask, but 15 minutes later you won't care because your skin will be utterly transformed. Unlike traditional wet sheet masks that contain mostly water, this one is absolutely dry with almost 80-percent active ingredients. After a day of travel or festival partying, your skin needs perking up with this smoothing, brightening and moisturising mask. It can even be used over makeup when you don't have time for a total refresh. Just make sure to gently massage it onto your skin, which will help the actives absorb into your skin, then remove after 15 minutes and return to the pouch (it can be reused at least another two times).
Available at Nordstrom and charlottetilbury.com, $27 each
9. CoverFX Shimmer Veil
Get your glow on with this high-impact liquid cream. Use this multidimensional shimmer product on eyes, lips, skin, and strategically on cheekbones, shoulders and décolleté. Try the colour Soleil for a sun-kissed, peachy-pink glow, or Halo for a cool-toned, colour-shifting attempt at a unicorn.
Available at Sephora, sephora.ca and coverfx.ca, $35
10. Silk'n Flash & Go Express Hair Removal Device
No one's got time during busy festival season to worry about shaving. This at-home laser hair removal system is a game changer. Yes, it's going to take longer than if you had it professionally done, but this works out to a bargain when you consider you can zap the hairs on your face, arms, back, legs and anywhere else you'd like to be hair-free... forever. You can even take this portable device with you if you happen to be in mid-treatment.
Available at select drug stores and silkn.ca, $349
