5 Trends Every Woman Needs in Her Closet This Season

Linda Sin of Middle Sister Boutique reveals how to style the hottest trends for spring and summer

It’s time to lighten up and brighten up your style for the warmer weather

Let’s just ignore the Vancouver rain and think spring! One of the best parts of the season is the fresh fashion. We chatted with Linda Sin, owner of Middle Sister Boutique on West 4th Avenue to get the scoop on the five spring and summer trends every woman needs in her closet, plus how to style them…

1. Pastels

“Pastels are back again for spring. Cotton-candy hues are everywhereshades of lilac, pink, lemon and duck-egg blueexpect to see them all. These pastel pink dresses are perfect for a spring wedding and ooze versatility. Dress them up with heels for evening or wear with sneakers for your weekend look. And when in doubt about wearing pastel shades, just pop your look with some bright lipstick!”

2. Linen

“We are obsessed with organic materials, so it fits perfectly that our next trend is raw and untreated fabrics. Enter the perfect linen dress. Relaxed yet sophisticated, linens are perfect for those summer days where you want to feel as cool as you look. These dresses are best worn with casual shoesgladiator sandals, espadrilles, wedges and, of course, everyone’s best friend, the sneaker.”

3. Ruffles

“Spring is full of frills and flounce, and if you aren’t up for head-to-toe ruffles, start subtleperhaps just on a sleeve or a hemor, in this case, both! We are obsessed with the ruffle trend and it seems as if most designers are also having a love affair with ruffles as they were splashed all over the runway. The best thing about the ruffle is that it acts as its own accessory: there’s nothing else requiredkeep it plain and simple—it’s so easy to style! We love this look styled with a low bun and with a pair of funky sandals or heelskeep it feminine!”

4. Bold vibrant shades

“This spring and summer will be very bright indeed, with vibrant, saturated hues. If you’re coming out of winter tired of wearing your trusted head-to-toe black outfit, add some life and colour into your wardrobe. Tomato red makes an especially strong showing, as does cobalt blue, emerald green, bright yellow and, of course, Pantone’s colour of the year, ultraviolet purple. A great way to nail this trend is to keep it casual on the bottom with a pair of sandals, and if you decide to wear sneakers, try another colour besides white!”

5. Retro florals

“Summer wouldn’t be summer without a sea of floral dresses. The perennial floral dress pops up every year, but this season the florals are bright, bold and vintage-inspired. Wear your floral dress with a pair of heels for a feminine and elegant look, or a chunky statement shoe, denim jacket and sneakers for a relaxed look. Basically everything goes with this one. If you’re feeling bold, pair florals on both the top and bottom in different prints.”
