The wait is over for the highly-anticipated revival of Carrie Bradshaw and friends
This week sees the arrival of one of the most anxiously awaited reboots in recent memory with And Just Like That…, the much-hyped return of Sex and the City.
Debuting with two back-to-back episodes, the 10-part series is described as the new chapter of this groundbreaking series, catching up with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
One name conspicuously absent from that list is Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones, who won’t be a part of the revival; instead, fans are invited to welcome her replacement in the friend group, Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), a documentary filmmaker and Park Avenue socialite who presumably fits right into the void left by Samantha’s absence.
While plot details are understandably being kept under wraps, we can expect to see a number of familiar faces returning, including Chris Noth (Mr. Big), Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino), David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt) and Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch), the latter making his final screen appearance before his untimely death in September, at age 57. Beyond Nicole Ari Parker, other new additions to the cast include Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz, Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace and Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel.
In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year, Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic would obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the city [these characters] live in, and how has that changed relationships once friends disappear? I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all.
And Just Like That… airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. & 9:50 p.m. on Crave1
