The Dish: ‘The Meegorrito’
The Details: Celebrating their Southeast Asian roots for Asian Heritage Month, Potluck Hawker Eatery is offering the ultimate Malaysian eats mash-up—’The Meegorrito’. The flour tortilla is filled with wok-fried yellow egg noodles with curry powder, chili sauce, special soy sauce, spam and egg before being seared on the griddle (tofu option available), and is available every weekend of May starting Friday, May 14. Inspired by chef Justin Cheung’s favourite breakfast burrito and IndoMie’s infamous instant noodle, the dish represents nostalgic moments from his childhood. Part of the proceeds from sales of the Meegorrito will be going to the Asian Mental Health Collective.
Location: 2150 Fir Street, Vancouver (Beaucoup) and 382 West Broadway, Vancouver (Asian Heritage)
The Dish: Dim sum-inspired croissant
The Details: In honour of Asian Heritage Month, Beaucoup Bakery and Asian Heritage Eatery have combined forces to create a dim sum-inspired Golden Mochi Croissant. The creation features Beaucoup Bakery’s famous butter croissant, a salted egg yolk frangipane, and Asian Heritage Eatery’s black sesame ball. Part of the proceeds from sales will benefit Yarrow Society, which helps low-income seniors in Chinatown. The Golden Mochi Croissant will be available on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the month of May.
Location: 375 Lynn Avenue, North Van; 1507 Powell Street, Vancouver; and 1370 East Georgia Street, Strathcona
The Dishes: Versatile pantry favourites
The Details: To celebrate the month ahead, Coho Collective has put together a limited edition, pantry staple pack, featuring versatile sauces (plus more!) by three Asian-led small businesses: Salty Cabbage, True Nosh and Van Koji. With the mission to make it easier for people to discover new flavours (or enjoy familiar ones), the Asian Heritage Month three-pack is available for the month of May for local delivery, pick-up and nationwide shipping.
