Location: Ymir, British Columbia

The details: From $300 per night (two-night minimum stay); sleeps seven

The amenities: Tucked in amongst three acres of forested land, this dome-shaped private property makes a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The open-concept home is located right on the edge of Salmo River, with a 500-square-foot deck circling the structure so visitors can watch the water flow on those cozy Sunday mornings. Natural lighting flows into this geometric space through the triangular windows along the top of the dome, and the yellow accent walls give the otherwise neutral interior a splash of fun. This house also features a 400-square-foot loft with a king-sized bed and one single bed; a main living area with antiques from the ’40s; and a basement equipped with a slate pool table. Looking to relax after a day of hiking with friends and family? Enjoy some me-time in the cast-iron tub by the river. Or, if you’re wanting to crack open a cold one and spend a night in, there’s a six-person electric hot tub with a lounger on the lower deck. For those who prefer to stay indoors, the living room has a 10-foot couch facing a 100-inch projector screen for the best possible vacation movie experience.

Activities in the area: Enjoy an afternoon biking along the river and stop by the historic Ymir Hotel (built in 1896) to view the extensive art collection and get those creative juices flowing. For the more adventurous, rock-climbing sites are just four kilometres away. If it’s sunny out and you enjoy a game of golf, the dome is a 12-minute drive away from a golf course. And for the cherry on top, a tranquil walk with those furry friends along Lake Kootenay, Eerie, Champion or Rosewood are all within a 30-minute drive.
