What could be sweeter than helping a kitten or puppy in need? In advance of National Cupcake Day (February 27th), the BC SPCA will be combining two of everyone’s favourite things—cupcakes and cuddles—for a can’t-miss fundraiser at the TELUS Garden building (510 Georgia Street).

This pop-up fundraising event will take place on February 16th in downtown Vancouver from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For an entrance fee of $10 (which will be used to support abused and homeless animals in the BC SPCA’s care), participants are invited to bask in the infallible joy of puppy cuddles while indulging their sweet tooth. Nosh of Glowbal Restaurant Group will be providing delicious cupcakes for the event which will be available by donation. Since its inception in 2013, National Cupcake Day has already raised more than $1.85 million across Canada, but SPCAs and humane societies across the country are still struggling to access to the considerable amount of money required to care for the thousands of new homeless, neglected and abused animals that are in their care every year.

“The goal of the event is to raise funds and awareness about National Cupcake Day, a national event to raise urgently needed support for SPCAs and humane societies across Canada,” says Kristina Matisic, National Cupcake Day spokesperson and self-proclaimed cupcake crusader. Though this event falls on the last Monday in February, anybody who is interested is encouraged to fundraise all month long to help animals in their community that are in need.

Interested in getting involved but can’t make the event on February 16th? There are many ways to contribute to this initiative, including hosting your own Cupcake Day fundraising party. Register online and personalize your Online Cupcake Kitchen, bake some mini frosted cakes and make a lasting difference in the lives of animals who need it the most.
