“Kamloops golf courses include nearly 1,200 metres of elevation change, where the dramatic topography illustrates a myriad of panoramic views,” says Lisa White, industry relations and communications specialist for Tourism Kamloops. “Golden fescue-lined tee boxes, awe-inspiring fairways and scenic bent-grass greens leave every golfer with lasting memories and a yearning to play again.”
What truly makes Kamloops a jewel on the golfing circuit is its ambiance. You can swing without crowds, the dress code is relaxed, and the vibe is friendly—all on top-ranked courses while enjoying plenty of annual sunshine, amazing conditions and an eight-month golf season.
Here are six incredible experiences that will make Kamloops your go-to destination for an unforgettable golf vacation this summer.

Talking Rock sits on the lands of the Little Shuswap Band, offering a unique Indigenous experience alongside incredible golf. The course bends through a mature, sandy forest before ending with a breathtaking 18th hole extending along the Little Shuswap Lake shoreline. This course was ranked #19 public course in Canada for 2019 by PGA of Canada.

Care to golf Canada’s best course for 2020? Tobiano’s unique topography meanders through benchlands with each hole framing incredible views of Kamloops Lake. This course is arguably one of the most acclaimed public golf courses in Canada created in this generation.

In March 1914, a group of 50 residents gathered in Kamloops to organize and build a golf course for the enjoyment of the local residents. More than 100 years later, Kamloops Golf and Country Club is Kamloops’ oldest golf experience and the only course in the area where you can spin around 18 holes on a golf board. Bent grass fairways and greens make this one of the best conditioned golf courses in Kamloops.

“Known as one of the most diverse and unique golf regions in Canada, it is hard to believe four of Kamloops’ outstanding courses were designed by the same golf architect,” White says. “The man behind these award-winning tracks is Graham Cooke, a successful and highly accolated golfer himself with a clear eye for what makes or breaks a golf course design.”
His diverse course range includes:
- Bighorn Golf and Country Club, one of Canada’s true desert style courses, situated directly overlooking the Kamloops cityscape and the Thompson River;
- Talking Rock Golf Course, designed in partnership with Wayne Carlton to embrace the natural, rugged terrain and leading to little alteration of the natural lands;
- The Dunes at Kamloops, carved into what once was the North Thompson riverbed and shaped and curated amongst the sandy tides;
- Sun Peaks Golf Course, known as the province’s highest elevation course, and guaranteed to provide a round that is a breath of fresh air to any golfer.

Golfing at Sun Peaks is a one-of-a-kind experience. Besides having greens 1,200 metres above sea level, it is surrounded by natural foliage and panoramic mountain views. If that’s not enough to draw you to British Columbia’s highest elevation golf course, consider this: golfing at higher elevation makes sure your ball flies longer and the mountain air provides relief from the hotter summer temperatures.
