1. Canada Day 150 on Robson – Saturday, July 1

Start the day off with a morning kettlebell workout at Bute Plaza with RYU Apparel (9:30 to 10:15 a.m.) then take in the Timber Ball Hockey Tournament (benefiting the Britannia After School Hockey program), which will be taking place from 12 to 4 p.m. VIVA Vancouver will be launching Bute Plaza as a colourful and fun outdoor lounge area, complete with tables, chairs, umbrellas and a piano. WE Arts’ large outdoor art display features over 10 artists and musicians at Cardero Street.

2. Canada 150 Drumming – Saturday, July 1

Join in a Guinness World Record attempt for “Most Nationalities in a Drum Circle” in Vancouver, when over 50 nationalities join together to form a giant drum circle to celebrate 150 years since Canada’s confederation.

3. Canada Day at Granville Island – Saturday, July 1

Granville Island is always a focal point for Canada Day celebrations and this year there will be maple-leaf mural workshops, bike decorating, doggie agility shows as well as the official Canada Day ceremony, TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival concerts and plenty of kid-friendly activities.

4. Lole White Tour On The Road – Saturday, July 1

McArthurGlen will be celebrating Canada Day in true Vancouverite style with their second annual mass outdoor yoga session with Lole White Tour On the Road. Five hundred yogis will gather dressed in white from head to toe, and partial proceeds go to KidSport Richmond, a national not-for-profit that provides financial assistance for sports registration fees and equipment for kids. The fun-filled day of activities also includes live music performances from the Vancouver Orchestral Club Symphony, a family-friendly scavenger hunt and face-painting.

5. Canada Day at Canada Place – Saturday, July 1 & Sunday, July 2

Celebrate Canada’s 150th with an epic fireworks display on July 1st and enjoy performances from artists such as Sam Roberts, Fefe Dobson, Emerson Drive and Hey Ocean! Recover the next day with a pancake breakfast and a special Canada150 parade through downtown Vancouver (starting at Broughton and West Georgia).

6. Flamenco, Tango and Wine Night – Wednesday, July 5

Dance meets wine for a night of raw, powerful flamenco and tango dance in an intimate setting at the Roundhouse, presented by Latincouver, Flamenco Rosario and Argentine Tango Lab. Music from the award-winning Gabriel Palatchi Band will accompany the dramatic dance moves.

7. Theatre Under The Stars – Friday, July 7 to Saturday, August 19

Celebrate summer with al fresco theatre in Stanley Park as TUTS returns with the family-favourite Disney classic Mary Poppins as well as The Drowsy Chaperone, a Canadian musical parody and five-time Tony Award winner that whisks audiences away on a jazz age journey of love, laughter and libation.

8. Fridays on Front – Friday, July 7 until Thursday, August 24

Food trucks, local breweries, a farmers market, craft vendors and live music from the New Westminster Arts Council bring the newly revamped Front Street Mews to life every Friday night for a family-friendly (licensed!) start to the weekend.

9. Rosé All Day – now until Sunday, September 3

Take a break from the red-and-white Canada Day celebrations and get a glass (or two) of rosé at Market by Jean-Georges’ Rosé All Day summer brunch series. New dishes such as smoked cauliflower croque madame are complemented by six new rosé-based cocktails, and a bar cart on the patio will feature Arterra Wines Canada wines, including Kim Crawford rosé, Jackson Triggs Reserve rosé and Ruffino Sparkling rosé. Musician Omar Khan entertains brunchers on the terrace for a summery start to your Saturday or Sunday.
Each weekend from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

10. MOV Unbelievable – now until Sunday, September 24

What happens when we question the tales we’ve long believed? The Museum of Vancouver’s new exhibit of iconic artifacts, storied replicas and contested objects is a quirky exploration of the role stories play in defining lives and communities.
