1. Vancouver Gem and Mineral Show – Friday, March 23 to Sunday, March 25

If you think rocks rock and you want to find a hidden gem, then the three-day Gem and Mineral Show is for you! It features everything from traditional tools and fossils to healing crystals and semi-precious stones for jewellery-making.

2. The Twerkout Plan: Twerkshop with Nikki Kirkland – Saturday, March 24

Give your butt a proper twerk out with Florida’s twerking queen, Nikki Kirkland. Learn some sexy and sassy choreography (bring water and knee pads), as well as the fundamentals of booty-shaking in a fun and supportive class.

3. Terminal City Tabletop Convention – Saturday, March 24 & Sunday, March 25

Fans of tabletop games can head to the Croatian Cultural Centre for a weekend of gaming, including a CATAN tournament, a special RPG room and prototype games for people to try. Join scheduled events and games online in advance.

4. Top Chef Collaboration Dinner Featuring Felix Zhou x Mark Singson – Saturday, March 24

Top Chef Canada contestants Felix Zhou and Mark Singson are teaming up for a collaborative dinner, which will be hosted at Heritage Asian Eatery. The six-course set menu features an array of family-style dishes and tickets include the full six courses and one alcoholic beverage (plus taxes and grats).

5. The Juno Awards – Sunday, March 25

Hosted by 12-time Juno winner, Michael Bublé, the 2018 Juno Awards will be broadcast live from Rogers Arena via CBC, CBC Radio and online. Performers include Diana Krall, Arkells, Daniel Caesar, Felix Cartal, Shawn Hook, The Jerry Cans, Jessie Reyez, Lights, Arcade Fire and Barenaked Ladies with Steven Page. Former Juno winners City and Colour and Sarah Harmer, will be teaming up for a special tribute to Gord Downie.

6. International Waffle Day at Cafe Medina – Sunday, March 25

In honour of International Waffle Day, Cafe Medina will be donating one dollar from each waffle sold on Sunday, March 25 to Mealshare, a national non-profit organization that has provided more than 1.8 million meals to youth in need since 2013. Between now and Sunday, you’ll also find internationally acclaimed chocolatier Thomas Haas’s ‘Haaselnut’ spread (caramelized organic Fraser Valley hazelnuts, 64% Valrhona dark chocolate, Irish butter and fleur de sel) as a limited edition waffle topping.

7. Margolese National Design for Living Prize – Monday, March 26

Acclaimed Montreal architect Anne Cormier’s free public lecture will share the vision that earned her the $50,000 2017 Margolese National Design for Living Prize. Awarded annually since 2012, and made possible by an estate gift to UBC by late Vancouver business magnate Leonard Herbert Margolese, the prize is awarded to a Canadian who has made, and continues to make, outstanding contributions to the development or improvement of living environments for Canadians of all economic circumstances.

8. Crimson Canteen – Tuesday, March 27

Presented by indie magazine and hard-knock chefs collective, The Curatorialist, Crimson Canteen is a series of curated pop-up food events that aims to highlight the flavours of China. The first event showcases Taiwanese cuisine by bringing together Vancouver’s Dumpling King Matt Murtagh-Wu, and Taiwanese Chef David Wu of Chinatown’s Rhinofish Noodle Bar.

9. Playdome at BC Place – Wednesday, March 28 until Tuesday, April 2

Celebrate spring break at Playdome, Western Canada’s largest indoor carnival, with over 45 fun rides to choose from and plenty of traditional treats such as cotton candy, mini doughnuts and slushies. Passes range from ride passes to ones designed for spectators.

10. I Lost My Husband – now until Saturday, March 24

When ageing party girl Evelyn loses her husband in a bar bet, things look grim. But as Evelyn’s life opens up in new and unexpected directions, she comes to realize that maybe her husband is better off staying lost. This is the world premiere of the English language version of Catherine Léger’s rollicking and ribald tale of love and loss, which takes on new resonance as an ode to female independence and emancipation.
