Fright Nights at Playland at the PNE — Oct. 11 to Nov. 2

Boo! Fright Nights return to haunt Playland at the PNE this Halloween season. With six fright houses, a scary slideshow, and tons of costumed monsters, it won’t just be the roller coasters that get your adrenaline pumping. New this year is a Fast Pass option, allowing you to skips lines at the most popular attractions.

Fort Langley Cranberry Festival — Oct. 12

With festive food, family activities and free entertainment, The Cranberry Festival is the place to be this Saturday in Fort Langley. The festival begins with a pancake breakfast, which should supply you with plenty of energy for the full day ahead. Visit the Fort Langley National Historic Site to learn about local historic cranberry harvesting, watch canoe races along the Bedford Channel, enjoy food and entertainment in front of Community Hall or join in the activities lining the streets of downtown.

World Indigenous Day — Oct. 13

2013 marks the Year of Reconciliation, and what better way to celebrate than sharing the beauty of indigenous culture? Visit the Roundhouse Community Centre this Sunday to attend workshops and panel discussions on the topic of reconciliation, then test traditional foods, enjoy indigenous music and cultural dance, and help celebrate our diverse community.

VSO Kids’ Koncerts: Inspector Tovey Investigates Harmony — Oct. 13

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s Kids’ Koncerts series at the Orpheum Theatre is the perfect opportunity to introduce your young ones to classical music. This hour long show will keep your kids’ attention as they help Inspector Tovey in his search for harmony. The concert features Saint-Saens’s Carnival of the Animals. Tickets available online.

Jack Johnson, From Here to Now to You Tour 2013 — Oct. 14

For a more grown up concert this week, check out Jack Johnson at the Orpheum on Monday night. Johnson carefully selected beautiful and intimate seated venues across North America to tour his sixth studio album, From Here to Now to You. We’re glad he appreciates the Orpheum as much as we do.

Turkey Trot — Oct. 14

Are you feeling guilty about the Thanksgiving feasts you’ll enjoy this weekend? Sign up for the Granville Island Turkey Trot: a beautiful 10k run, walk or stroll around the seawall. The Turkey Trot is by donation, with cash and food collections going to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. And if you were looking forward to indulging this holiday, don’t count the Turkey Trot out. Race participants will be rewarded with gourmet food and live music. Strollers are welcome at this family-friendly event.

Expand your knowledge of Yaletown’s culinary offerings and celebrate the treasures of our town. The 9th Annual Taste of Yaletown begins this week, with numerous Yaletown restaurants offer VIP menus, special tastings, prix fixe dinners, and the wonderful culinary culture Vanouver is known for. Participating venues include: Urban Fare, George Ultra Lounge, La Pentola della Quercia and Honjin Sushi.

Ballet BC’s Tilt — Oct. 17-19

Be a part of a world premiere, as Ballet BC debuts Tilt this week at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Choreographed by Jorma Elo, critically acclaimed Resident Choreographer of the Boston Ballet, this contemporary production will surely tilt your expectations of traditional ballet. Fall Harvest Community Dance 2013 — Oct. 18

Ring in the harvest season properly with an evening of square dancing, dinner, and arts and crafts at the Trout Lake Community Centre. Featuring a hearty soup and fresh baked bread served in donated pottery from the Trout Lake Pottery Club, this evening of fun will keep you warm on a cool October evening.
