Bring warmth home with Pantone's Colour of 2015, the wine red Marsala
A new year marks the debut of a new reigning Color of the Year from the Pantone Color Institute and, in 2015, all hail Marsala. An earthy, naturally robust and full-bodied wine red, Pantone proclaims this unifying shade will bring warmth and sophistication into the nation’s home interiors.
“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated natural earthiness,” said Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman in a press release.
According to Moe’s Home Collection’s Gene Guindon, Marsala’s popularity isn’t indicative of a trend, but an evolution.
“For the past half a decade, greys and blues have dominated the interior design industry,” explains Moe’s Head of Staging. “Marsala’s warmth adds an enriching element to predominantly cool colour schemes. I predict this colour will last a good long while.”
BCLiving: Is Marsala a welcome colour to home decor?
Guindon: “Red has been out of favour with the design industry for a while, but we’re happy to have it back in this rich, spicy tone. This year’s sultry rendition of a classic hue is perfect for warming up a home during the winter months, and while it has a big impact on its own, it complements a good range of other colours, from cool blues to toasted neutrals.”
BCLiving: How can homeowners incorporate Marsala into the home?
Guindon: “Marsala has come at a perfect time to give you that classic red, white and blue home. 2014 was the year of the blue sofa – we have had a record number of customers edge into dark navy fabrics and rich blue leathers to complement existing design elements such as White Oak hardwood flooring and blonde wood tables. Add some Marsala home accessories, such as throw cushions, accent chairs and vases into the mix and you have a winning design.”
