Burgoo

"Burgoo's Sunset Corn and Chicken Soup is best paired with an order of Gooey Cheese Grillers. This is not... um... health food. This is comfort food. It is comforting. And delicious."

Kits Kitchen

"I love Kits Kitchen because I am always on the go. It makes for a quick, healthy meal, and is perfect after a long day on-set of Love It Or List It Vancouver."

Danny’s Wun Tun Restaurant

"Nothing soothes my soul like a good wonton soup. I will drive from Kits to Steveston just to enjoy BBQ Pork Wun Tun Noodle in Soup with Chinese Broccoli from Danny's Wun Tun. The broth is brilliantly composed—the pork is done in-house by Danny and he's a master. On top of the great food, it's reasonably priced and family owned and operated. I arrive and feel like Norm from Cheers. They are the goods."

Nelson The Seagull

"Nelson the Seagull's Daily Roast Vegetable Soup is just another reason to eat the best sourdough bread in the city! Their vegan soup paired with a board of bread and butter brings South African simplicity to lunching in Gastown."

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka

"I hate to line up for anything, but I'll do it for the ramen at Santouka Ramen on Robson Street. I always order the same thing: Toroniku Tonkotsu Ramen. The pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the noodles are the perfect chewy bite, and the broth is velvety and flavourful. Now that the weather is cooling down, I'll be lining up once again. It's totally worth the wait."

Benkei Ramen

"We are huge suckers for ramen, especially on those grey, rainy Vancouver days. We first fell in love with Benkei Ramen a few months ago after finding out chef Taka Omi (of Fairmont Pacific Rim’s Raw Bar) was one of the creative masterminds behind the menu. Our fave is probably the Akaoni Ramen ($9.25), served with pan-fried minced pork, green onion, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and the restaurant’s special-roasted garlic oil and roasted sesame. If you’re feeling extra hungry, splurge for the deluxe version ($12.50), and you’ll be treated to additional toppings such as shoyu (soy sauce) egg and corn."

Pho Rex

"My favourite soup in Vancouver is Pho Beef Sate in Noodle Soup from Pho Rex. I never had pho growing up and wasn't brave enough to try it until after I was on Big Brother Canada—you lose all sense of fear after being on that cast. The broth of their #13 soup in unlike any other I've tried. I couldn't be more addicted and am making up for the last 35 years without pho in my life."

Joyeaux Café & Restaurant

"At first glance Joyeaux Cafe & Restaurant looks like an all-day breakfast diner, not somewhere you'd find pho. I'd walked past it a few times during weekday lunch rushes and it's always buzzing, so I had to see what all the fuss was about! They have a large menu of Vietnamese dishes and pho options. I love the vegetarian pho, a big bowl of light broth packed with veggies and rice noodles. Not pictured, a fresh whole coconut with a straw ($5)—delish!"
