On Saturday, May 14th, local philanthropist and Army and Navy President Jacqui Cohen hosted the Face the World Foundation's 26th annual gala at her beautiful waterfront home.
The city and country's most prominent business and community leaders were all in attendance, raising more than $700,000 for charities throughout the Lower Mainland, particularly focusing on charities that support abused women and children, the elderly, and the homeless.
Guests enjoyed the glamorous affair with drinks sponsored by Taittinger, and delicious meals by Hy's Vancouver and Gotham Steakhouse, while seated in a specially-created "retro red" tent decorated by Simon Cooksley. There were many highlights to the evening, including a live and silent auction with fabulous works of art by Dina Goldstein and Tiko Kerr, and hotel stays at The Savoy-London and Point Yamu in Phuket. Steven Page and Vancouver's Odds had everyone on the dance floor till the end of the night.
The biggest news from the event was Cohen and her daughter Kasondra Cohen-Herrendorf announcing that their charitable foundations, Face the World and Face of Today, will join forces in 2017.
"My mother has been my role model and inspiration," said Kasondra Cohen-Herrendorf, who started Face of Today nine years ago. "Like my mother and grandmother, I feel a tremendous responsibility to ensure the Cohen family is there to continue to support organizations in-need, in Vancouver. The needs of charitable groups in our city continue to grow, and we have an opportunity to give back and change lives."
