The daily morning feast: yogurt, fruit and granola

Yes, it’s another breakfast post on the dinner blog, because as you might know by now, I am a bit obsessed with breakfast. I wish I could eat it at every meal, and I won’t skip it for anything.

I tote my breakfast to work every day, and it’s a variation on the same thing: yogurt, fruit and some grains, seeds or granola.

I’ve been eating this breakfast every day for the past several years, since the first time I decided to go off sugar and needed a healthy alternative to the breakfast muffin and banana. And while sugar did eventually creep back into my diet, the breakfast combo stuck.

The only caveat to this morning wonder: it takes a bit of commitment. If you’re not an early morning person like me, then I suggest you prepare it the night before.

Healthy Yogurt and Fruit Breakfast

  • 3 Tbsp plain yogurt – this could take some getting used to if you’re accustomed to flavoured yogurt. Start by mixing in some vanilla yogurt, then eventually phase it out
  • Half a banana, sliced
  • A handful of any other fruit – I use blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in the summer; kiwis, pears or melon in the winter
  • A handful of granola, grain of choice, or seeds – I started out with muesli, but eventually phased that out in favour of sunflower seeds. I prefer non-sugary options, but use whatever works for you
  • Dates – if you need a little extra sweetness, slice up a few dried dates and throw them in the mix.

There you have it: a healthy breakfast, perfectly portable, and so delicious you’ll want it every day, too.
