Help Shedding Winter Weight

The average winter weight gain among Canadians is three to four pounds

You may have gained more weight than you think last winter

If your spring wardrobe is fitting a little tight you may be in for a shock.

It’s estimated that the average winter weight gain among Canadians can be as much as three to four pounds. And where you’ve packed on those extra pounds is important, too, because fat that accumulates around the belly increases your risk of heart disease. The Heart and Stroke Foundation reports that health risks increase at a waist size of 102 centimetres (40 inches) or greater for men, and 88 cm (35″) or greater for women.

Don’t let your weight and your waistline get away from you. Spring into action now by focusing on healthy eating and active living. For helpful tips, check out Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide at www.healthcanada.gc.ca/foodguide.
