TV personality Fiona Forbes reveals her favourite haunts in Kitsilano

WHY FIONA LOVES WHERE SHE LIVES

“I love Kitsilano because it’s home. I’ve lived on the West Side most of my life and it truly is my favourite place to be in Vancouver. It’s
so close to downtown but such a peaceful escape – you really can’t beat living so close to the beach.

“Kits often gets a bad rap for its casual style. I mean, it is the birthplace of Lululemon so it’s definitely known for the yoga-pant brigade and it’s a pretty healthy, active ’hood with lots of yoga studios and so much to do outside – but it’s part of the reason I love it here.

“I’ve lived in a couple of other neighbourhoods over the years, but Kits is truly home to me. It really has everything I could want in a perfect ’hood!”

Fave Places to Eat and Drink in Kits

“I really love Nook on Yew Street (pictured). It’s got fantastic food and a great casual ambience. It’s also my favourite place to grab a glass of wine. For watching a game or any sunny day on the patio, Local on Cornwall is the perfect casual joint. On West 4th, La Quercia has absolutely fantastic Italian food, and for a casual brunch you can’t go wrong with Oakwood Bistro.”

Fave Places to Shop in Kits

Granville Island is super close by, so it’s always fun to walk down there for fresh produce. There are also a few great butchers, like Jackson’s Meat (pictured), and fishmongers like 7 Seas on West 4th. You can just stroll along, pop into a couple of great local shops and boom – you’ve got dinner! As far as clothing goes, I will play into the stereotype. My most recent purchase was from Lululemon on West 4th, which is a little nostalgic for me. I remember back when my old pal Chip told me he was going into the yoga business and opened his first store in Kitsilano. I thought he was nuts, but who’s laughing now?”

Fave Places to Play in Kits

“My favourite haunt year-round is definitely Kits Beach. Having a dog, it’s the perfect place to walk, plus it has a huge off-leash dog park right on the water.”
