Todd Talbot of Love It or List it Vancouver reveals his favourite haunts in Lions Bay

There’s a little truth in every timeworn saying, especially “Home is where the heart is.” And it really rings true when talking to Todd Talbot about his Lions Bay community, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it village off the Sea-to-Sky Highway just north of Horseshoe Bay. “The reason we moved to Lions Bay was that we wanted to find balance between that rural out-of-the-city feeling and still be within 30 minutes of downtown,” says Talbot. When he’s not working in TV or real estate, or chipping away at the never-ending renovation of his house, he spends time with his family, exploring the best of this seaside enclave.

“If you go to the General Store around 7 or 8 a.m., the Morning Glory muffin is still hot from the oven,” says Talbot. And the chicken curry soup is “unbelievable.”

Must-go Event

Each fall around Halloween, the local firehall puts on a community fundraiser and party. “There’s a bar, a pig roast and face-painting for the kids,” says Talbot. “At night the parents get to dance and party… It’s an awesome event.” A number of homes in Lions Bay also have a tradition of serving mulled wine. “Bring your travel mug and plan your circuit around the village.”

“There are so many kids in Lions Bay. It’s not a sleepy retirement community,” says Talbot. And the beach is a hidden gem. “In the summer, everyone is down there and you know everybody. People are swimming every evening… kids are all playing together.
