He is the law. Dredd comes to DVD

Dredd

In this second attempt to bring the cult comic book hero to the big screen (the first was the 1995 Sylvester Stallone flop Judge Dredd), Karl Urban plays the unstoppable police officer of the future trying to bring down a gang dealing a reality-altering drug. (Lionsgate)

Frankenweenie

In this animated remake of his own early career live-action short film, director Tim Burton tells the story of a lonely young boy named Victor who, after losing his beloved dog, discovers a way to bring him back from the dead with results that vary from disastrous to hilarious.

Game Change

For the past couple of years Sarah Palin has been played out in the media as a punchline, but this made-for-HBO film takes a serious look at John McCain’s (Ed Harris) 2008 run for the U.S. presidency and how his choice of Alaska Governor Palin (Julianne Moore) would affect his chances.

Hit and Run

The appropriately named Charlie Bronson (Dax Shephard) risks exposing his identity in the Witness Protection Plan and igniting old threats when he decides to help his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) drive across country in this wild comedy.

House at the End of the Street

The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence stars in this thriller about a mother (ElizabethWhen  Shue) and daughter that move into the house next to the home where a young girl murdered her parents and where things may not seem as safe as they thought.

Compliance

Based on a true series of incidents, this thriller follows the manager (Anne Dowd) of a fast-food restaurant who gets an unknowingly prank phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer who orders him to interrogate and humiliate an innocent employee (Dreama Walker).

General Education

When Levi (Chris Sheffield) discovers that he got a tennis scholarship to university, he isn’t as happy about it as he should be. It turns out that he didn’t actually graduate from high school. In order to keep his scholarship and his secret, Levi goes to summer school in order to make up his failed courses.  (Anchor Bay)

Seal Team Six

Not to be confused with the highly-acclaimed Zero Dark Thirty, this made-for-TV docudrama covers some of the same territory as it follows the Navy SEAL attack on the Pakistan compound where Osama Bin Laden has been hiding.

TV ON DVD:

Smash: The Complete First Season

While it might be dismissed as a Glee rip-off, this series – full of original songs from composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman – follows the casting process for a new Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe and the drama between the performers (especially Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee) up for the title role and the production team (including Debra Messing and Angelica Huston) behind the scenes. This 3-disc set contains all 15 episodes from the first season. (Universal)

Episodes: The Complete First and Second Seasons (Paramount)

Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Grieg star as a married couple who are also the creators of a popular British TV series about the teacher at a private school. When their series gets the opportunity to get an American remake, they are asked to come to Hollywood to oversee it. What they didn’t expect is that it would get a complete makeover, that former Friends star Matt Leblanc (playing an exaggerated version of himself) would be cast in the lead and that they would become entwined in his personal life. This 2-disc set features all 16 episodes from this comedy series’ first two seasons. (Paramount)

Midsomer Murders: Set 21 (Acorn)

This 4-disc set features four feature-length episodes of the long-running mystery series which stars Neil Dudgeon (in his first four episodes) and Jason Hughes as detectives Barnaby and Jones. These tales: Death in the Slow Lane, Dark Secrets, Echoes of the Dead and The Oblong Murders are the first episodes of the 2011 season. (Acorn)

The Goode Family (Shout! Factory)

Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead; King of the Hill) co-created this short-lived 2009 animated series about an extremely politically-correct family voiced by Judge, Nancy Walls Carell, Linda Cardellini and Brian Doyle-Murray. This 2-disc set features all 13 episodes along with EXTRAS like deleted scenes and scripts for unaired episodes. (Shout! Factory)

Archer: Season Three

David Cross (Arrested Development) is one of the stars to lend his voice to this off-beat animated series about a self-centered idiotic spy which stars H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler and another AD alum Jessica Walters. This 2-disc set features all 13 outrageous third season episodes.  (Fox)
