Run for Water raises funds for Hope International Development Agency

Water is vital for good health, but we sometimes take our access to clean water for granted.

Here in BC, we’re fortunate to be able to turn on a faucet and have fresh water. In many parts of the world people aren’t so lucky and are forced to drink water that’s contaminated with parasites and waterborne diseases. In fact, children in developing countries are 520 times more likely to die from diarrheal diseases as kids in North America.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that we can do something about it. We can help people in these regions get access to clean water. And it’s easy to help.

Abbotsford Run for Water

I was at a fundraiser for Hope International Development Agency last Friday and found out about the Run for Water being held in Abbotsford on May 30, 2010.

The run accomodates all levels of runners and you can choose from three different distances: 5K fun run, 10K run or the full half-marathon distance.

You get in shape and raise money that can save lives. How good is that?

I also like the fact that Hope International is a BC-based charity that does great work all over the world. It makes it that much more of a local connection.

So get those running shoes out of the closet and sign up for the Run for Water. I’ll be running the half-marathon and hope to see you there!
