Tourism Prince George is your reference guide to a city bursting with community activities, enchanting celebrations, and stunning wilderness all year long
You can start by visiting, Nancy O’s, one of B.C.’s favourite restaurants, and treating your taste buds to a towering burger filled with wholesome local ingredients, while being entertained by an intimate performance by a B.C. band. Then, head to one of the many big events happening in 2015 and party like a local.
There’s the huge pre-party to celebrate Prince George’s centennial year, University of Northern British Columbia’s (UNBC) 25th anniversary, Pacific Western Brewing’s 75th birthday — featuring its PWB Festbier brew — and the arrival of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
The Winter Games, which kicks off this February, is the largest multi-sport and cultural event to be held in Northern B.C.; and Prince George is the first city in the province to host the event, ever. Thousands of visitors and athletes from across the country will be flocking to the crisp white snow on Purden Ski Village, Tabor Mountain, Otway Nordic Ski Centre and numerous upgraded city facilities to celebrate winter sports. But the party starts long before with Cirque du Soleil opening on New Year’s Eve, followed by the Kiwanis Ale Festival and the Iceman: a distinct winter competition that features skiing, running, skating and swimming.
By the time summer rolls around, the city will become a bustling hub of top-notch food, entertainment and festivals. Bright young people, like those who fill the classrooms at the UNBC, are part of the tight-knit community that is transforming the city day by day with fun events and quirky local boutiques. They are converting the city’s downtown into a centre where diverse food, arts and performance hotspots can all be found. Meanwhile, Theatre North West and the PG Playhouse put on critically acclaimed shows, from contemporary Canadian works to classic international plays.
There’s truly something for everyone here — why not come and experience it all for yourself?
