Transition Your Bedroom Decor from Summer to Fall

Heavier textiles, deeper colours and even the smell of cinnamon can make your bedroom the perfect fall retreat

New toss cushions in thicker textures like cable knit, wool or velvet will make your room feel more fall-like

Q: Summer is coming to an end and I want to switch up a few pieces in my bedroom to make it cosier for fall. Suggestions?

As summer comes to an end and the days and nights become a little chillier, there are a few simple changes you can do to make your bedroom a cosy retreat throughout the fall and winter.

A great place to start is by bringing in warmer and more luxurious bedding. Light, summery floral bedding can be swapped for prints featuring fall berries or autumn vine prints.

Add new toss cushions in thicker textures like cable knit, wool or velvet. These fabrics will look especially fall-like in deeper, richer tones from hunter green to navy blue. Look for gold details in the form of buttons or studs to up the wow factor. A faux fur throw at the end of the bed will impart a sense of luxury while making your bed extra soft. This is also a great way to introduce a new texture into the room.

Consider switching out lightweight curtains such as sheers or linen drapery for heavy velvet or cotton twill. Look for decorative pieces in earthy materials like wood and metal. Try incorporating rich wooden picture frames or pieces of driftwood into your space. Complete the ambiance by bringing in candles in heady scents like pumpkin and cinnamon.
