Hockey fans take note – your chance to help celebrate the biggest milestone in Canada’s favourite sport is rolling through town from November 14 to 17. The Hockey Canada Century Tour celebrates 100 years of Hockey Canada with a cross-country tour in an “interactive hockey experience caravan”. Stop by Richmond Oval to learn about the history of Canadian hockey, check out fun activities for fans of all ages and snap plenty of photos.
Drop by this stylish gala for a good cause held at Vinci’s Caffe and Art Gallery. The Midnight in Paris Gala raises money for the Eating Disorder Clinic at B.C. Children’s Hospital. A $45 ticket includes entrance to the event, a glass of wine and canapés. The theme of the night is the romance of 1920s Parisian cafés, and guests are invited to dress up in their best and dance the night away.
Christmas is just around the corner and Park Royal is hosting the big guy in red, and they’ll be celebrating Santa’s arrival with a flurry of festive activities. The first 100 kids to sit on Santa’s knee will receive a complimentary advent calendar, but don’t worry if you’re late: colouring books, antlers, and candy canes will be available for all children. The fun doesn’t end there, though. Stick around for activities and face painting with Santa’s elves, and a special dance performance.
Vinyl is far from dead, and it appears it has found a new lease on life right on Vancouver’s Main Street. The Main Street Record Fair is held at The Heritage Hall, and is the hottest spot in town to buy, sell and trade records. There are over 50 independent vendors who are limited to one table each, which means that every table is stacked with the best deals and best tunes.
As the days get colder, there’s no better comfort food than a plate full of hearty, homemade pasta. Peter from Pasta Famiglia will be holding two separate classes to teach you how to make fresh egg pasta and hand-shaped gnocchi. For $60 you’ll be provided with all the locally sourced ingredients and expert guidance to help you create delicious pasta to feast on.
It’s not only the best drinking festival in the province – The Hopscotch Festival was even voted one of the 10 best in world by MSN Travel UK. This legendary event takes over the PNE Forum for its grand tasting event on November 21 and 22, but check out their satellite events held across town from November 17 to 23 for more. You can attend classes, tasting events and meal pairings for your favourite drink, from beer to whisky to tequila.
Halloween is long over, but there’s no reason to slow down on spooky fun. The Vancouver Police Museum hosts a movie night in the city’s old morgue every second Tuesday of the month. The November movie is the action-packed classic (and, given the location, ironically named) Die Hard. The event fills up fast so make sure to book your spot in advance for the most one-of-a-kind movie experience there is.
If there’s anything that Vancouverites love more than our seafood, it’s our ocean. Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program lets us have the best of both worlds by supporting sustainable seafood. You can support the cause at the Chowder Chowdown, and cast your vote for the best chowder in town. The delicious chowders will be paired with local craft beer, and the whole soirée will go down in the beautiful Vancouver Aquarium.
The Eastside Culture Crawl has been a staple in Vancouver’s arts and design scene for 18 years now and it’s only getting better. This four-day fest will bring together 20,000 people to check out over 400 different artists in their own studios. The most festive forest in town is putting down roots in the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and Pacific Centre Mall. For six weeks, the Festival of Trees will deck downtown with decorated Christmas trees. It’s free to check out the trees, but they request a $2 donation in order to vote for your favourite Evergreen. The proceeds from the event all go to supporting the B.C. Children’s Hospital.
