Mayor Gregor Robertson congratulates the artists (and celebrates Movember) at the awards ceremony in November.

Vancouver's arts and culture community celebrates the talent and contributions of local artists

At the swanky downtown 560 Club, purple and pink lighting on white brick walls surrounded the otherwise black room where the Vancouver arts community sipped drinks to the tunes of electro cellist Chris Derksen before Mayor Gregor Robertson took the stage to give the artists their much deserved props.

Mayor's Arts Award recipients were chosen by a jury of peers based on the artistic innovation they bring to Vancouver, each receiving cash awards of $2,500. Emerging artists chosen by each honouree were also acknowledged on their up-and-coming paths to acheivement.
