Cambie Cycles Bent Ride, part of Velopalooza 2010.

Come June 2011, Vancouver will be the hub of biking fun for 17 days straight. And you could be the face of the party (sort of)

The crazy bike party that is Velopalooza returns to Vancouver in June 2011. Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to 17 days of jam-packed cycling celebration in the form of riding tours (in costume or not), picnics, parties, music and other community organized events.

The cycling festival is brought to you by Velolove, which has been playing a key role in cultivating the vibrant cycling culture in Vancouver. It began as a mailing list and online forum in 2001 and quickly evolved into a volunteer-run community that regularly organizes or promotes biking events and meet-ups in the city. Some of those who regularly use the Velolove mailing list have also gone on to spearhead other awareness activities such as Car Free Vancouver Day and the monthly Critical Mass rides.

Call for submissions: Velopalooza 2011 poster design contest

There are many ways to get involved in Velopalooza. You can host your own event. You can volunteer (email volunteer@velopalooza.ca for details). Or, how about designing the poster?

Organizers of Velopalooza have put out a call to the public for a 11x17-inch poster design that best represents the fun spirit of the event. The winner will take home a $300 cash prize and a $50 gift certificate to Vanprint. Submission deadline is Wednesday, December 15, 2010. So, pedal to the metal, artists!

For more details, including the technical specs, check out the Velopalooza Facebook page.
