Popular home decor store West Elm and design blogger Jan Halvarson, co-founder of Poppytalk.com, have come together to bring Vancouver its very own Etsy pop-up shop, a market event dedicated to handcrafted goods Saturday, May 25, from 1-6 pm.

West Elm and West Elm Market will feature 16 Etsy sellers at the event, with vendors offering everything from hand-sculpted jewellery and home accessories to cute and quirky handmade cards.

“Supporting local artists and offering our customers handcrafted products are incredibly important to us at West Elm,” says West Elm. “Etsy is such an amazing resource to help us make this happen.”

Bringing Etsy to Vancouver

Attendees can expect unique pieces by local artists who are either unknown to the general public or who sell only through Etsy.

“We love being a connector in this way. We’re lucky that we have two beautiful stores to offer up and we’re excited to let the artists and makers of Vancouver take over,” says West Elm.

Participants were chosen by Halvarson, who selected works she thought would complement the store’s aesthetic.

“I love that people who make and sell things do it because they love it, and you can see that in their product,” Halvarson says. “Usually their work is very well made and packaged beautifully; you can sense that when you have them in your hands. It’s tangible, it’s handmade and it’s beautiful. There is so much amazing local talent to choose from, it was hard to edit.”

Vancouver’s Etsy Artisans

Jeannette Ordas, who goes by The Beautiful Project on Etsy, is excited to be one of the artisans in the event. Ordas designs greeting cards and has been an Etsy user since 2005.

“I think it will be a great opportunity for me to get my products out to a different demographic. It’s always fun meeting shoppers and I think being at West Elm will bring out a pretty design-savvy bunch. I can’t wait,” she says.

Amanda Parker, Marian + Hazel on Etsy, will be selling her unique handmade fashion jewellery, handmade home accessories, and visual art – all inspired by nature.

“I hand sculpt all of my jewellery out of a durable polymer clay. The forms and designs are inspired by systems within the natural world, such as underwater organisms and macro photography,” Parker says.
