Yellow pine or Ponderosa pine should have no trouble surviving Alberta winters. The range of Ponderosa pine is very large, extending from Mexico to B.C. and east to South Dakota, so getting plants grown from hardy seed sources is important. Many tree growers in Alberta have Ponderosa pines in their fields so buying a plant grown locally will ensure better success. At Bylands we supply many tree growers in Alberta with small plants that are grown on by them. We are very careful about the seed sources we use to ensure hardiness.
