New high-traffic locale offers better access for fresh food foragers.
Vancouver Farmers Markets has announced that it will be relocating its Wednesday night market to Station Street near Thornton Park, in front of Pacific Central Station.
The market was previously located at Riley Park in South Cambie, but according to Roberta LaQuaglia, VFM’s Operations Manager, that location “had been struggling for a few years to attract enough customers, [and] when there’s not enough customers it’s difficult to recruit vendors.”
LaQuaglia says she’s excited about the move, as “it’s offering the opportunity to bring fresh food to a neighbourhood that doesn’t have a grocery store,” as well as “great visibility and profile for the market to a wide array of people.”
The market’s central, high-traffic location, next to the Main Street SkyTrain station and along several major bus routes, means shoppers looking for fresh, organic local produce won’t have to come by car—and as an added bonus, it’s also adjacent to a green space, though the kiosks themselves will be on the sidewalk.
The Main Street market opens Wednesday, June 10 and operates until October 21.
Other markets include the West End farmers market (Saturdays), Kitsilano (Sundays) and Trout Lake (also on Saturdays).
