A tasty fruit smoothie from the garden
A “zero-mile diet” is about eating really fresh and nutritious food with flavours that leave your tastebuds tingling. A great way to enjoy summer fruit from the garden year round is to drink it up. We keep bags of raspberries, strawberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, blackberries and Saskatoon berries available for use all year long – all from our garden.
As they ripen, I simply freeze the berries on baking sheets overnight, then store them in freezer bags. Freezing individually allows you to use only as many as you need.
1 banana 125 mL (½ cup) yoghurt or apple juice Frozen fruit 5 mL (1 tsp.) maple syrup or honey Dash of vanilla Smoothies are quick and easy to make if you have a good blender. Simply peel a banana and toss into the blender with yoghurt or apple juice and your choice of frozen fruit*. Blend until smooth. Optional: Sweeten with maple syrup, honey and/or vanilla.
