1. Lend an ear at a storytelling slam
Kameko WalkerRediscover the lost art of storytelling and listen to 10 people tell original tales for the February 14th edition of Vancouver Story Slam. Head down to Cottage Bistro (4470 Main, Street) for an evening of laughter and listening. Be sure to cast a ballot for your favourite raconteur, as the person with the most votes is awarded $150 and the title of "story slam champ."

Facebook/Gastown CabaretHead down to Guilt & Company in Gastown (1 Alexander Street) to experience a strip-tacular Valentine's-themed burlesque show performed by Gastown Cabaret. This 19+ event promises to be a sexy smorgasbord of "burlesque, belly dancing, circus acts and random hilariousness" and is hosted by burlesque icon, Sparkle Plenty. As well, be sure to eat all the doughnuts during their famous doughnut-eating competition, and mouth the words to your favourite anti-love songs during the lip sync battles that will be taking place periodically throughout the evening.

3. Eat more doughnuts at Cartems' doughnut tasting
Cartems DonuterieI don't know about you, but the prospect of indulging my gluttonous side on the most romantic day of the year sounds pretty enticing. Local doughnut lords Cartems Donuterie (534 West Pender Street) are providing people with a delicious alternative to the standard V-day experience: doughnuts. Lots and lots of doughnuts. Cartems is very serious about their pastries, and this year they are hosting an ultimate four-course tasting experience. For $45 (plus taxes and fees), you can enjoy savoury and sweet doughnuts, complete with wine and port pairings. There are also vegan tickets available.

4. Find love in a funny place at Cafe Deux Soleils
Facebook/The Fictionals Comedy CoBeloved local improv group The Fictionals are combining passion and punchlines for Valentine's Day Destruction, a special edition of the monthly Vancouver Improv Fight Club at Cafe Deux Soleils (2096 Commercial Drive). The comedians will divide into two teams during "Cupids battle" to win over the hearts of the audience. Whether you are a party of one, two or 10, this event will be sure to tickle your heart and funny bone.

5. Enjoy beer and burlesque at Rio Theatre
Rio TheatreBack by popular demand, this highly anticipated Burlesque Duos Valentine's Day event returns to the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway) this February 14th. The event features a talented lineup of professional burlesque dancers performing never-before-seen innovative duet numbers. The show sold out quickly last year, so be sure to grab your tickets in advance. Regardless of what your Facebook relationship status is, this is sure to be an amorous evening for all!

6. Get lucky at The Irish Heather
