Get in good with the Gatekeeper at the Ghostbusters' 25th anniversary fete.
If someone asks you if you want to see Ghostbusters, you say YES!
Can you believe it’s been 25 years since the first Ghostbusters movie? The proton packs, the slime…Sigourney’s perm. Could it be that long ago? Whether you’ve seen it recently on TV, haven’t seen it since it came to theatres, or weren’t born yet, it’s time.
If bustin’ makes you feel good, come down to the Rio this Saturday and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ghostbusters. Second Level Wizards, that nerdy Vancouver events group, wants to party like it’s 1984 by showing both Ghostbusters I and II, two episodes of the “Real Ghostbusters” animated series, a handful of rare video clips and by giving away lots of prizes!
There’s no Dana, only Zuul!
How does one WIN said prizes? Well, you could brush up on your trivia, or you could try your chances at the symmetrical book stacking contest. Remember? In the library? If not, you really need to come out and re-watch these movies.
Doors open at the crazy early hour of 9:30 a.m. The first movie will start at 12 noon and the second movie will begin at 2:15 p.m. Tickets are being sold in advance for $16 online (www.secondlevelwizards.com) or at Elfsar Comics & Toys, Rx Comics, Pulp Fiction and The Rio.
But, who wants to come to Ghostbusters alone? This is an all-ages event, so bring the kids and take advantage of the Rio’s four-ticket family pack for $60. Don’t have kids? Well, avoid jail time and skip the kidnapping and just invite three of your buddies. Who are we to say that you’re not all related? (Obligatory note of disavowal: Granville Online does not condone lying to movie theatres get discount tickets…)
I’ll be live tweeting throughout the day so you can either follow @2LW or my personal account @kdot. Don’t forget; the Rio is located at the corner of Broadway and Commercial Drive —right off the Skytrain. Skip the car (and the pain of parking) and hop on public transit.
If you’re in the neighbourhood—for the Trout Lake Farmers Market, perhaps—be sure to pop on by afterwards. It is supposed to rain…
