Legendary local amusement park Playland is now open for the season at Hastings Park… and putting fun back in fashion! The park will feature a trail-blazing new ride, the reopening of the beloved Playland wooden coaster, family-friendly activities, mouth-watering treats and much more.
After a long haul of pandemic-related challenges, there’s never been a better time to start planning a day of non-stop action and fun. Your latest extreme thrill ride is coming soon! Playland’s newest ride, Skybender, features mind-blowing experiences unlike anything else available in Canada. Slated to open in early July, Skybender offers a single-rider experience, featuring a dazzling light package, dramatic action sequences and an astonishing combination of gravity drops and accelerations. Skybender has been designed by Zamperla, one of the world’s most respected amusement design and construction companies. At a total investment of 2.7 million, Skybender is Playland’s most significant investment in five years and is sure to become a bucket list experience.
Devoted hobbyists and ride-lovers alike will rejoice with the news that the Playland wooden coaster will reopen this July! Originally launched in 1958, this iconic ride is considered one of the best wooden rollercoasters in the world and is a well-known Vancouver attraction, drawing visitors from near and far. The coaster has won a long list of accolades including Coaster Classic and Coaster Landmark from the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE), the world’s top coaster enthusiast organization. Over the past 12 months, extensive updates have been underway including the addition of over 1,200 lengths of structural grade Douglas Fir, lap belts added in the train to meet incoming safety standards, and many other state-of-the-art updates. This project is the largest refurbishment of this classic attraction since it originally opened. Locals will be thrilled to see the familiar sight of this landmark ride back in action against the breathtaking Vancouver skyline.
