When the soil warms up the garden takes off like a bullet! We are overrun with humungous amounts of five colour silverbeet chard and kale now, both of which self-seeded. As a seed saver, my garden is always full of healthy volunteers, because many vegetables self-seed. To keep food growing in straight rows, I harvest volunteers outside the row first.
Arugula, miner’s lettuce, cress, silverbeet, chard, kale, lettuce, spinach coriander, endive, orach, magenta sprean, calendula, corn salad and parsley self seed with no problem in my garden. Perennial vegetables such as sunroots, (Jerusalem artichokes), oca (New Zealand Yams), rhubarb, asparagus and globe artichokes also spread and multiply with no problem.
