It’s so easy to grow salad greens outside the kitchen door or on a windowsill.
Simply buy or build a planter box and fill it with salad greens of your choice. From my salad box I am harvesting two varieties of kale, three varieties of lettuce, Chinese coriander and chicory greens. TIP: Use recycled wood and build a box for free.
Grow your own customized salad blend by mixing seeds of mustard, endive, lettuce, spinach, coriander, cress, kale or chard. Sprinkle a teaspoonful of this seed mix into a 4-litre bucket of sieved compost, and spread this evenly across the salad box.
Use the ‘cut-and-come again’ method of harvesting tender baby salad greens, using scissors and letting the leaves re-grow.
