Q: I have had hundreds of beautiful carnations flowering all summer. They were planted last autumn as small plants and they survived very well through the cold and snow. I have started to cut them back and am wondering if I can move them to different places to make my garden look tidy and to fit bedding plants neatly. Will this harm them?
Yes, your carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus cv.) can be moved. If winters are severe I would suggest moving them in the spring when the worst of winter has passed. Prepare the new location as if new plants are being added.
