CB2’s plaid chartreuse pillow ($34.95)
There’s a new go-to decor destination amidst the fashion-retail hub of Robson Street in downtown Vancouver – one that fills the affordable-modern design void. The spare-and-simple style source is CB2, the hipper division of Crate and Barrel that originated in Chicago in 2000 and opened its first international stores in Toronto and Vancouver early this year. Think retro cool, from a pool-blue bar cart to a tufted-tweed eco-friendly sofa.
It’s springtime, and The Other Room is just the place to turn a new leaf. This chic contemporary store recently opened its doors as the new project of Country Furniture in North Vancouver – and though the esthetic may have done a 180-degree turn with Eames instead of over-stuffed, it’s the same family-owned vibe with local talent and finds.
Love the quintessential European café? Well, it’s come to downtown Vancouver with Bel Café, where you’ll find macaroons à la Paris (try passion fruit or pistachio) alongside bistro-style sandwiches. This cosy new entrée into the city’s food scene is from none other than David Hawksworth, chef extraordinaire of buzz-worthy Hawksworth Restaurant in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Mais, bien sûr! 801 W. Georgia St., Vancouver, 604-682-5566
Martha Sturdy’s gem-like resin pieces are back on South Granville shelves. The design icon’s signature collection – chunky and colourful vases, bowls and platters – are now available at long-time style source Atkinson’s. Each vase, bowl and platter is unique, celebrating striations in colour and texture like a work of art. 1501 West 6th Ave., Vancouver; 604-736-3378
