Burritt Brothers Carpet and Floors and a local painter create beautiful textiles together
Artist Zoë Pawlak stands in front of the painting that is the basis of her new rug collection.
Each of the five rugs in the collection contains an image taken from her colourful abstract oil painting Over Oceans. While one rug contains an image of the entire painting in pinks, blues and greys, others contain smaller sections of the painting, or a distorted version of the original. Each piece is a stunning example of what is possible when art, technology, and business come together.
Pawlak has exhibited her vibrant paintings in galleries internationally and has been featured in magazines Martha Stewart Living, Style at Home, and House and Home. While this is her first time working on a rug collection, she’s soon diving into the world of textiles again when she collaborates with Vancouver clothing designer Nicole Bridger on her 2014 Spring/Summer collection.
“I’ve never felt bound to a single medium or a single theme, because there are so many ways to engage and connect with the people who buy and appreciate my work,” says Pawlak. “The business of art is rapidly changing, and that presents new opportunities. By embracing collaboration – whether it’s through canvas, textiles, or rugs – a whole new body of work is born.”
Pawlaks entire rug collection will be available at Burritt Brothers Carpet and Floors, a family operated business that has been in Vancouver since 1907. The Main Street institution is a go-to for area interior designers with a staggering 15,000 samples of carpets and floors to choose from.
