Drop-In Yoga – November 2 to December 18

Cut the stress this fall with a classic Vancouver activity, yoga. Presented by theyogiapp, there’ll be classes all around town offered at prices beginning on a pay-what-you-can basis. You can browse their site to find a class that interests you and then reserve your spot right there online. Some classes will even be donating their proceeds to charity, so now there’s no reason not to namaste.  

Movies at MARKET – November 7 and 8

A trip to the movies can turn into the height of indulgence when you attend Movies at MARKET by Jean-Georges at the Shangri-La Hotel. Guests will start the night in the Shangri-La’s luxurious private theatre complete with champagne and gourmet popcorn. This month they’re showing Red Obsession, a documentary about wine. After the movie a delicious four-course meal inspired by the movie will be served.

Canvas and Cocktails – November 8

If you need an idea for a night out then here’s a great way to let your artsy side out (and failing that, your tipsy side). Zealous Art’s Canvas and Cocktails party raises money for the Kids with Cancer Society through a relaxing night of painting. No matter your level of artistic skill, you’re sure to walk away with some great memories and a painting to be proud of. 

Heart of the City Festival – Till November 9

Every neighbourhood has its quirks, characters and special qualities. The Heart of the City Festival is celebrating all the best that the Downtown Eastside has to offer with over 90 events in over 25 different venues. This mega event covers everything from comedy to poetry to history, and shares a slice of the local mosaic of multicultural talent. Check online to find their day schedule with info on all their events.  

The Preloved Sale – November 9

Now’s the perfect time to nab that one-of-a-kind outfit for the upcoming holiday party season – and at the Preloved Sale you’ll find a bargain. Vancouver women have cleaned out their closets to sell off clothing, accessories, shoes, purses, small household items, and more. From vintage finds to designer threads with the tags still on, there’s something for everyone. 

CiTR’s Shindig! Night Four – November 11

UBC’s student-run CiTR 101.9 FM broadcasts alternative programming all over the Lower Mainland, and their annual SHiNDiG is an epic battle of the bands that pits 30 up-and-coming local artists against each other. The fourth installment of this competition kicks off on November 11 with shows by Double Standards, Malk, and Speller. Head down to the Hindenberg for cheap drinks, free pool, and good music. 

Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival – November 12 to 15

Some of Vancouver’s most famous features are our stunning mountains, and the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is celebrating those and more. With venues in East and North Vancouver, the event will be showing four different films that capture the beauty and spirit of mountain sports, from biking to climbing. You can grab tickets to any of these, or to a talk by ski mountaineer Ptor Spricenieks on their website.

Blues for Paws – November 13

The Edgewater Casino is hosting a night of music with some of the hottest blues acts in the city. Blues for Paws will raise money for the BC SPCA and guests can even bring down a bag of pet food to donate to the cause. Artists like Jim Byrnes, Sibel Thrasher, Hell’s Gate Blues Band and more will all be taking part in the fun. Tickets are available for $20 at the door. 

Unwrap Etsy – November 14 to 19

Get a head start on your Christmas shopping with a trip to Unwrap Etsy. It’s the first=ever Etsy pop-up shop in Vancouver and it promises to be full of whimsical homemade knick-knacks and unique fashion pieces. Attend on the 14th for a Christmas ornament making workshop, or on the 16th for a workshop on leather belt making. Remember to bring a new book to donate to A Good Book Drive.

Perfect Pairings: Food and Wine – November 14

The right food and wine combos elevate any aspiring homemaker’s dinner soiree, but knowing which food goes with which wine can be head scratcher. Vancouver’s top cooking school, The Dirty Apron, is offering a class to help you figure out how to bring your dinner and drinks into perfect harmony. You’ll learn how to pair their decadent menu with the perfect wines in this fun and informative session.
